THE FLOCK
The
Bluefaced Leicester sheep flock at Kensington Woodlands Farm was founded in
1979 with the purchase of three ewes at the "Away to Wooler" Dispersal Sale.
The Ewes were in lamb to "Laid Law Steel Jimmy". We had no Ram Lambs for the
Kelso sale of 1980. Our first sale at Kelso was in 1981 - we had forward 6 Ram
Lambs which sold. In 1982 we had the highest average at the Kelso Sale, which
was £528.00 for 8. Our top lamb for £1200 went to the Northern Ireland Department
of Agriculture Farm. In our 1983 sale we had a similar average with our top
price lamb at £1600.00 going to the Republic of Ireland Department of Agriculture
Farm. The Flock has been built up over the years to 45/50 Ewes. The Tups used
over the years have come from the leading Flocks in England and Scotland. The
Tup that has made the most impression on the Flock was the Carryhouse Lamb bought
at Hexam, October 1995, which cost £3,500. He has made great improvements on
our Flock. Our highest price for a Ram Lamb was at Builth Wells in 1999, which
made 1550 Guineas purchased by Michael Walton and Sons, Roseden, Northumberland.
Our Kelso lambs over the past 4 or 5 years have been exceptionally well received
by buyers North and South of the Border and indeed the same goes for Builth
Wells. The Flock has won hundreds of prizes including Championships at all the
Leading Agricultural Shows North and South of the Border.
